If you shop on the west side, there's a new Aldi to try. The grocer opened its newest store Thursday at 5224 West Ridge Road in , across from Walmart, and shoppers lined up through the parking lot before the doors opened. Township and Aldi officials cut the ribbon that morning.

  • Hours: daily, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • First 200 customers: a gift card and a gift bag

It's the fourth Aldi in Erie County and the second in Millcreek. The others are on West 12th Street, Downs Drive in Summit Township and Buffalo Road in Harborcreek. "Aldi has proudly served the Erie community since 1994," a company spokeswoman said ahead of the opening.

The timing is handy for Thanksgiving planning. A casual survey found a basket of 10 common grocery items cost $1.06 more, on average, in November than in early October. Nationally, Aldi is working toward 3,200 stores by the end of 2028.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure but i just saw something and thought I'd express my opinion.

“Christmas is my FAVORITE holiday however i am one of those people that decorate one holiday/season at a time. Many will argue having your tree doesn't make the turkey taste any different and I'm sure that's true but i like the order of my home and everything in it's place so the day after thanksgiving my fall…”

The Wrap

You may see a cruise ship docked at Donjon on Erie's bayfront. It's the "American Patriot," run by American Cruise Lines, and it isn't here to pick up passengers. Think of it as a sneak peek of what the bayfront may look like in 2028, when Erie becomes an official cruise ship destination. Pretty big boat for a preview.
