Mayor Devlin proposes a nearly $88 million budget with a one-mill tax increase for 2027

The 2027 plan holds spending nearly flat

in proposed spending, excluding pension funds
0.7%
increase over last year, pensions counted in both
$100
more in taxes on a $100,000 property

If you own a home in Erie, here's how it adds up. Mayor Daria Devlin proposed a one-mill property tax increase in her 2027 budget, and that adds $100 to the bill on a $100,000 property. She's aiming to close a gap of nearly $15 million.

“This isn't gonna be easy, right?”

Dr. Tyler Titus, Erie City Council president

The gap started above $13 million, then grew with about $1 million in contractual raises and $600,000 in added debt service. The city has already cut ten positions, and the plan covers the rest with savings, new revenue, a tax increase and reserves.

A $6.5 million transfer from the fund balance is the plan's biggest piece

The Wrap

Lunch with a side of history: today at Presque Isle State Park's Beach 1, a late 1700s fur trapper and shipwright cooks a colonial lunch and shares what life was like in the Erie region. It runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sounds like a tasty way to meet the neighbors from 200-plus years ago.
