  • Ryan Zuern said the Saga Club at 3828 Washington Ave was bought in May by the William Taylor Memorial Lodge #64 and the Millcreek Police Association, and the venue is being transformed into a public restaurant that will soon open — a new Union Club.  The Erie Times-News

  • Gannon University and library officials revealed a sneak peek of CLEER—an upcoming research and education center in the Blasco Memorial Library that will open on October 4 with interactive exhibits and a global NOAA display system to bring science directly to the community.  YourErie.com

  • Protestors gathered outside the Shale Insight Conference on Wednesday as it ended + they said the event let lobbyists support fossil fuels over renewable energy in a Sun Day protest.  YourErie.com

  • After Wednesday night's City Council meeting near Perry Square, community members gathered to demand more information on the shooting death of Marchello Woodard by a state parole officer, which state police and the Erie County District Attorney have been investigating for 77 days as protesters called for more transparency.  YourErie.com
  • Erie County announced Wednesday it was seeking qualified providers to set up a daytime drop-in program at the Community Resiliency Center—aimed at giving people experiencing homelessness a safe place to rest and find referrals. County Executive Brenton Davis said proposals must be submitted by October 6 so the program can help residents move from survival mode to greater stability.  YourErie.com

  • Cathedral Prep senior Andrew Costello from Fairview returned from his two-week trip to Okinawa after winning gold with Team USA at the U-18 Baseball World Cup — he batted .429 and helped secure a 2-0 win over Japan watched by more than 16,000 fans.  The Erie Times-News

  • Presque Isle Downs and Casino in Erie will host its largest thoroughbred race day on Sept. 19 with a key $300,000 Masters Stakes prep race for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships—four stakes races will offer a combined $650,000 prize and draw top fillies and mares for this Grade II sprint.  The Erie Times-News
