COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Millcreek Township hosted a family event at Asbury Park on Saturday afternoon where children sat in police cars, fire trucks, and maintenance vehicles to learn about the work first responders do—providing a rare up-close look at local service vehicles. Millcreek Parks and Recreation will hold a Halloween-themed family dance at the park this fall.  YourErie.com
  • Tall ships including Erie's own Lettie G. Howard will sail toward Dobbins Landing for the Tall Ships Erie Festival from Aug. 21 to 24, with the Parade of Sail planned from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors can track the fleet online with a tracker that updates every 10 minutes.  The Erie Times-News
  • The second annual Maverick’s Memory car and bike show took place Sunday at the Greene Township Building to honor baby Maverick Easton who died at 6 weeks; the event raised funds for nonprofit Emma’s Footprints and drew strong local support. Maverick’s mom Ashley Astemborski said the family plans to continue the show in the future—ensuring Maverick’s memory lives on.  YourErie.com

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Erie firefighters rescued a woman trapped in a burning home on the east side last Monday in the 700 block of East 7th Street—she was taken to UPMC Hamot and is now hospitalized while officials investigate the cause.  YourErie.com
  • Firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire on East Avenue Sunday evening—leaving the three-story home with major damage to the attic and second floor while the cause remains under investigation.  YourErie.com

  • Krispy Kreme launched its Harry Potter-themed doughnut collection yesterday—featuring five doughnut flavors inspired by Hogwarts houses and a Golden Snitch latte—and the special items are available at the Erie location on 7501 Peach St until Sept. 14.  The Erie Times-News

  • Jade Winery hosted its annual Wieners and Wine event on Saturday where guests brought their wiener dogs for races and measuring contests—vendors, food trucks and wine samples were available while a portion of the profits was donated to Because You Care.  YourErie.com
