- ➤ Erie's longtime hunter Gary Cunningham bagged his first wall-hanger trophy buck, nicknamed Tiny, on Nov. 30 at a farm near his home. He plans to enter the buck in a contest + have a shoulder mount made. The Erie Times-News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Erie County teen Walker Scobell is set to star in the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, airing on Disney+ and Hulu on Dec. 10. The season, based on Rick Riordan's The Sea of Monsters, follows Percy as he faces new challenges at Camp Half-Blood. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services is accepting LIHEAP applications from Dec. 3 through April 10 to help households pay winter heating bills. Applicants need a recent bill + proof of income, and grants range from $200 to $1,000. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Erie City Council unanimously approved naming Chestnut Street between West Third + West Fourth streets James C. Sherrod Way to honor the longtime community advocate who died Nov. 14. A dedication ceremony is planned for Jan. 19. The Erie Times-News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A report from the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council published today shows that UPMC Hamot presented higher-than-expected mortality in stroke, heart failure, kidney issues, back problems and pneumonia (aspiration) during the fiscal year October 2023 to September 2024. Other hospitals noted similar trends with some lower readmissions. The Erie Times-News
