COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Times Old Newsies will collect donations on Dec. 5 to help feed the hungry by offering special edition newspapers in exchange for contributions at Millcreek Mall, banks, Tops Markets and other local spots — the drive aims to raise $55,000 to support food pantries and meals for veterans.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Erie School Board will review a proposal by retired teacher Brian Lasher to rename Harding Elementary in honor of the late John Boyd, a native who attended the school. A public meeting will be held on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at Harding Elementary—there the district will outline its policy and next steps for creating a Naming Review Committee.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Jan. 31, the federal government will cut payments for more than 800 Medicare lab tests due to a flawed law — a bipartisan RESULTS Act has been introduced urging Rep. Mike Kelly and Congress to secure funding so that Erie patients, especially seniors, can keep access to these essential tests.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Erie Otters acquired forward Kase Kamzik from the Sarnia Sting in a one-for-one trade for Tyler Challenger and a 2024 first-round pick, and Kamzik said the move brings him close to home in Johnstown—where he grew up. He remains eager to earn his first point in an Otters uniform while coach Kris Mallette noted the trade adds another Pennsylvania native to the roster—strengthening the team for upcoming games.  The Erie Times-News
  • Spencer Nagy is named head coach of the General McLane wrestling team after Ryan Cook’s 21-year run—he spent six years as an assistant and said he will bring fast-paced, high scoring matches to the mat. Nagy, a known face in the wrestling room, plans to honor the program's strong tradition with his own style.  The Erie Times-News
