COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WQLN’s Holiday Craft Show will take place at Rainbow Gardens in Waldameer Park on November 15th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and November 16th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—over 100 local crafters will offer unique items, children will meet Santa and Mrs. Claus from 12 to 2 p.m., and tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for seniors.  YourErie.com
  • Erie and Millcreek will honor veterans by hanging banners on street poles for two years as announced Monday at the press conference at the Intermodal Transportation Center—residents can nominate a veteran via the Kiwanis Club of Millcreek website.  YourErie.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Presque Isle State Park will be partly closed until 2 p.m. Dec. 10 and Dec. 11 for a controlled deer hunt—hunters with permits will be allowed into the area east of the Stull Center until 2 p.m. each day before the park reopens to the public.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie's first lake effect event brought blue-green warnings for heavier snow, especially south of I-90, while purple advisories warned of lighter snow across the area, with snow accumulating overnight into Tuesday morning and fading after 1 p.m. today. A later system is expected to bring rain or snow on Wednesday.  YourErie.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Road crews are working around the clock after Erie saw its first snowfall Sunday evening as the Streets Department deployed plows and salt spreaders to target main routes—drivers are urged to slow down on slick roads and follow odd-even parking rules that aid removal. A winter weather advisory is in effect for lakeshore areas along with a lake effect snow warning for regions below I-90 until 1 PM tomorrow.  YourErie.com
  • The City of Erie reminded residents to use only compostable pale green plastic bags or open hard containers for leaves and open hard containers or compostable brown paper bags for compost. City officials stressed that cardboard boxes, non-compostable bags, pet waste mixed with leaves, and raking or blowing leaves into the streets are not allowed—because wet leaves can be slippery and parked cars can catch fire.  TalkErie.com
  • After the first snowfall arrived overnight, Millcreek Township reminded residents of winter parking rules and safety tips—cars left on the street after Saturday, November 15 may be ticketed and towed, and residents are advised to keep mailboxes, fire hydrants and drains clear for safe snow removal. The township's guidance aims to prevent delays and hazards during snow removal until parking rules end on April 15.  YourErie.com
  • The Shapiro administration is adding more than 1,200 truck parking spots at 133 locations on existing state property to improve safety for commercial drivers — the first lots with no sight, distance or safety concerns will open at four Interstate 79 on-ramps in Erie County and include weigh stations for state police enforcement.  YourErie.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula was recalled in Pennsylvania after 13 botulism cases emerged in 10 states — including a hospitalized case in our area, prompting the state health department to advise parents and caregivers to stop using formula with use by dates of December 1. The FDA and local officials are investigating the outbreak as the recall remains in effect.  YourErie.com

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com showed that in August, Erie County's median home sale price increased 17.2%—from $192,000 to $225,000—and 280 homes were sold, marking a 2.2% rise from August last year.  The Erie Times-News
