The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority is hosting its 8th annual Stuff the Bus toy drive to benefit Toys for Tots of Erie County on December 5 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Millcreek Mall Plaza near Primanti Brothers—donations may also be dropped off at the EMTA administration office on East 14th Street from November 5 to December 4.

Erie and Crawford County crews responded to a house fire in Mill Village near the 14900 block of Mackey Hill Road on Wednesday afternoon, where wind stoked the flames and a homeowner was burned trying to extinguish the fire, and the home was declared a total loss — no further injuries were reported.

Eastway Lanes, a bowling alley on Buffalo Road in East Erie County that has been operated by the Lytle family since 1961, was announced for sale on Tuesday as the owners prepare to retire and expect the process to take 3 to 5 years.

A long-time bar in Erie has been transformed into KD’s Place by new owner Kimberly Finnegan—who once patronized the former Rathskellar—and now offers baked goods, coffee, tea and mocktails in place of alcohol.

Local artist Nicholas Cardell Gore is exhibiting his three-foot patriotic bell at the Children’s Museum as part of the Bells Across PA show.

Officials announced unofficial results for school board races held November 4 in eight Erie County districts—winners included incumbents and new candidates in contested races in Erie, Corry, Fort LeBoeuf, General McLane, Girard, Iroquois, North East and Northwestern boards—while some districts had only enough or too few candidates to fill available seats.

Meteorologist Tom Atkins visited Fairview High School on Nov 5 to teach students about storms, including an explanation of the May 1985 Northwest Pennsylvania tornado outbreak—Learning Support teacher Nicholas Jones said his real-life experience made the lesson more engaging.

Presque Isle State Park will host its annual two-day deer hunt on December 10 and 11, allowing up to 85 hunters (who must use non-semi-automatic shotguns, muzzleloaders or archery) to help manage the deer population.

Hunters will need to call the park office on weekdays starting November 12 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. (providing a valid Pennsylvania Hunting License and proper tags) to apply.

A local federal worker said he has not received a paycheck since October 10 and had to cancel a vacation to pay bills as he supports his wife and three children during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

He said elected officials are holding workers financially hostage—forcing continued hardship until the government reopens.
