  • Friends and family of Marchello Woodard held a vigil Monday night outside the probation and parole office as attendees brought memorials and candles to honor Woodard—who was shot and killed on July 2 by a state parole officer—with peaceful protests continuing as the community called for more openness from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.  YourErie.com

  • Union workers from 10 long-term care facilities represented by SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania made progress in talks with Valley West Health on Oct 16 and plan a second session on Oct 29 to seek wage increases that match regional standards—workers avoided a three-day strike after earlier threats over unfair labor practices.  The Erie Times-News

  • Erie County is experiencing peak fall foliage with bright reds, yellows, and oranges lighting up the landscape, though some areas show muted colors due to dry late-summer weather. The display may be short-lived—high winds expected next week could speed up leaf drop.  YourErie.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The South Erie Post Office at 3607 Poplar Street will close at the end of business on Oct 31, with services moving to the Presque Isle Post Office on Legion Road 3.3 miles away; customers with PA boxes will start receiving mail there on Nov 1 and no reopening date has been set—postal officials are working with the landlord on building issues.  YourErie.com
  • Lawrence Park officials announced that Waste Management will take over trash and recycling services starting Jan. 1, 2026—replacing Pro Waste with a three-year contract that costs $97.29 per quarter per household. Residents will get weekly trash pickup, single-stream recycling, large-item and hazardous waste collection and can rent carts with a 10% discount for seniors if registered by Nov. 1.  The Erie Times-News
