  • The Erie Area Rabbit Society and Rescue (EARS) hosted a bowling event at Greengarden Lanes today to raise money for food and vet care for nearly 70 rescued bunnies. Kellie Clark said the fundraiser featured bowling, a 50-50 raffle, and bunny-themed goodies (including t-shirts and calendars) to help cover care costs.  YourErie.com
  • LEAF’s annual Tree Festival at Frontier Park was held yesterday and brought community members together with free trees, freshly made apple cider, and live zoo animals — while experts explained the importance of trees for the local environment.   • Families gathered at Gridley Park for the annual Eerie Fall Fest — hosted by Our West Bayfront — to celebrate fall. The event featured live music, food, horse carriage rides, games, and a trick-or-treat parade that brought a festive atmosphere to the community.  YourErie.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artisans showcased handmade crafts at the Erie Guild of Craftsmen's 52nd annual craft show held Sunday, where items like dolls and lampshades were on display.   • Local artist Christy Brown opened her new store Around the Shores and More on Oct 19 and sells Lake Erie themed artisan products while offering community art lessons—featuring a hand-painted mural of Presque Isle Bay.  YourErie.com

  • Erie residents benefited from a SKY WARN course held yesterday at Hirt Auditorium (Blasco Library) where meteorologist Tom Atkins taught how to watch weather changes after last year’s lake-effect snowstorm to better prepare for winter, and they will use this knowledge when the season arrives.  YourErie.com

  • Today, Governor Shapiro announced a plan to award $9.5 million in funding to finish a new 27,000 square foot marketplace downtown while also improving the Bayfront Parkway and providing a $121,740 grant to turn 160 acres in McKean Township into ready-to-build business sites—moves designed to boost local jobs and economic growth.  TalkErie.com

  • Music and sports fans gathered at Mercyhurst University to enjoy a pre-game concert by Garret Owens before the football match with Duquesne. The Mercyhurst alumnus shared his journey from playing football to making music — a nod to his roots — and thanked the community for its warm welcome.  YourErie.com
  • Fairview's girls golf team learned on Oct. 17 that they received an at large berth for the PIAA 2A tournament and will try to defend their title on Oct. 22. Coach Ryan Quiggle and the team, led by players such as Cora Hirz, must move quickly after losing by one stroke in District 10 to prepare for a repeat state title—heightening their determination.  The Erie Times-News
