COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local residents and their pets ran the Trails and Tails 5K at Harborcreek Community Park yesterday morning to raise funds for the Haven 2 Home program that helps pets displaced by domestic violence. This year marked the event's fourth run and showed growing community support.  YourErie.com
  • On Sunday afternoon at Presque Isle State Park, hundreds joined the 50th Erie County Crop Hunger Walk to raise funds for local food pantries and global projects—church groups and youth helped support the fight against food insecurity.  YourErie.com
  • Burch Farms hosted its first Corks and Classics car show in North East—where visitors tasted wine, viewed classic cars, and ate BBQ as fall arrived. Owner Tim Burch said the event brought the community together and promoter Jim Robertson added there is something for everyone as the farm plans to host more shows in the future.  YourErie.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Nearly 100 people gathered in downtown Erie on Saturday afternoon for the Unity with the Community March organized by the Justice for Chello movement to demand answers about the death of Marchello Woodard, who was shot by a PA State Parole Agent nearly three months ago+ family members call for more transparency as officials continue the investigation.  YourErie.com
  • A horse owner at Presque Isle Downs was suspended indefinitely by the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission on Sept. 22 after staff found an electrical device in his vehicle at the stable gate—his two horses scheduled to race that day were scratched from their events.  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The festival in grape country ended Sunday as nine local wineries offered over 100 wines with a day or weekend pass; live music, craft vendors, and food trucks boosted attendance—organizers reported that sales were higher than last year.  YourErie.com
  • Erie's Flagship City Reptile Expo returned on Sunday morning with exhibitors presenting geckos, snakes, and educational tips on reptile care while vendors also offered unique plants.   • Female Feature Fest begins tonight at Centennial Hall—featuring a lineup of female-led bands from Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio and a special performance by Tokyo band Kazha that highlights women in heavy metal rock.  YourErie.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie riders on e-bikes must follow the same rules as bicyclists and are not allowed on sidewalks in downtown business districts (including West 12th and East 12th Street), while electric scooters remain illegal on public roads and sidewalks and can only be used on private property.  The Erie Times-News
  • The U.S. Coast Guard is testing Aqua Alerts—phone notifications that will alert Erie residents about water rescues on Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The system will send automatic alerts with details like vessel type and last seen location without the need for an app.  The Erie Times-News
  • Union Township supervisors amended solar farm regulations on Sept. 25 by increasing the setback from 150 to 450 feet and raising the decommissioning deposit to 125% of removal costs - changes that may make future solar projects cost prohibitive for many landowners.  The Erie Times-News
