CRIME NEWS

  • The Erie County District Attorney’s Office received new evidence from the Pennsylvania State Police on the death of Marchello Woodard and is reviewing it—promising to share results with the family and public once the investigation is complete.  TalkErie.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jack Lee, a longtime labor leader and Summit Township supervisor, says Erie deserves strong local leaders who support workers and urges voters to elect pro-union Daria Devlin for mayor and Christina Vogel for county executive on November 4—he believes that fair pay and safe work conditions will improve for all—. He stressed that electing leaders who stand up for workers is essential for thriving families and a strong community.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • LECOM Health pharmacist Katie Zboyovski described the different flu vaccines available for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Her explanation gives residents a clear look at each option for staying healthy.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie County began its flu vaccination season with a Flu Kickoff and Wellness Event on August 29 where local residents like Arlie Bradish received an updated flu shot. LECOM Health will offer vaccines at 26 public sites over the next two months — including a high-dose shot for seniors at Glenwood YMCA — to help reduce record flu cases.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cathedral Prep senior Andrew Costello left Friday for Okinawa, Japan to join Team USA at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup where he will play starting Sept. 4. He is the only player from Pennsylvania on the American roster and said he is excited to learn about Japanese culture while competing abroad — a milestone in his rising baseball career.  The Erie Times-News
  • Week 2 of District 10 high school football began when Conneaut beat Iroquois 23-13 on August 28 in rainy conditions at John Post Stadium while staff covered 17 Friday games. Today, Erie plays Garfield Heights at 1 p.m. and both Greenville and Slippery Rock start at 7 p.m. — reporters will update scores as the season continues.  The Erie Times-News
