- ➤ On Saturday, the Lucky Bean Coffee Run Club held a morning run that allowed dogs to join runners on a 1-mile or 3-mile route as it partnered with the Humane Society — a group that supports animal welfare. - ➤ Zabawa, one of Erie’s most well-known heritage festivals, ended on Sunday after a weekend of fun and record pierogi sales. Students from Gannon and Mercyhurst Universities volunteered throughout the event and organizers said months of hard work led to its success—planning for next year will begin in early January. - ➤ Local businesses and organizations teamed up on Sunday, August 24th at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium for the annual Back-to-School Jam, where nearly 500 clear backpacks and school supplies were given out to help kids prepare for school—lines had started close to 11:30 a.m. before distribution began at 1:00 p.m. YourErie.com

GM Teacher Selected for United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Teacher Fellowship Program
We’re excited to share that General McLane teacher Maximillian Knight has been selected as one of only 13 educators nationwide for the 2025–2026 United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Teacher Fellowship--this prestigious honor recognizes his expertise in Holocaust history and commitment to engaging students and the wider community. As part of the fellowship, Mr. Knight will host a professional development session in Erie this fall to help local teachers bring the lessons of the Holocaust into their classrooms, which is an inspiring story of educational excellence and leadership at the perfect time—just as we begin a new school year.
