CelebrateErie's Chalkwalk will run Aug.

15–17 on State Street between Eighth and Ninth streets in downtown Erie, showing murals by 29 local artists. Visitors can vote for their favorite via a QR code or at a tent near Perry Square.

Cal Pifer, executive director of the Hagen History Center, launched a sunflower project at the Girard campus that planted 1.2 million sunflowers and attracted about 10,000 visitors over the past week.

The project will harvest seeds for Wilds Sonshine Factory to make spirits and plans are in place for more events next summer — boosting local tourism and business.

Erie Gives Day raised over $11 million for local non-profit organizations as the Erie Community Foundation exceeded its $10 million goal by awarding bonus donations to all 539 groups—four received a late gift to close the gap.
