- ➤ CelebrateErie's Chalkwalk will run Aug. 15–17 on State Street between Eighth and Ninth streets in downtown Erie, showing murals by 29 local artists. Visitors can vote for their favorite via a QR code or at a tent near Perry Square. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Cal Pifer, executive director of the Hagen History Center, launched a sunflower project at the Girard campus that planted 1.2 million sunflowers and attracted about 10,000 visitors over the past week. The project will harvest seeds for Wilds Sonshine Factory to make spirits and plans are in place for more events next summer — boosting local tourism and business. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Erie Gives Day raised over $11 million for local non-profit organizations as the Erie Community Foundation exceeded its $10 million goal by awarding bonus donations to all 539 groups—four received a late gift to close the gap. Official results will be announced on September 15—highlighting a record-breaking year that surpassed last year’s $9.7 million. YourErie.com
- ➤ Erie will host the Tall Ships Erie Festival from Aug. 21 to 24, and drivers will use Bayfront Parkway while lower State Street stays closed to vehicles so pedestrians can reach the grounds. Downtown parking, shuttle service, and a Bayfront Convention Center lot available only to VIP weekend ticket holders will support the event — all plans set by the city to keep traffic clear. - ➤ Erie police maintained special patrols and closed the docks for the night over the weekend—police said a large crowd gathered, threw a football, and a fight near State Street led to four women being cited for disorderly conduct. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Warren County grandmother Nicole Walter, who battled breast cancer and a heart attack, won over $2 million from the Pennsylvania Lottery on Aug. 2 playing Monopoly Progressive Jackpots and received her check on Aug. 13 at the Western Pennsylvania Lottery office in Millcreek; she and her fiancé plan to invest in rental properties, buy vehicles & help their ten grandchildren set up accounts for the future.
