CULTURE NEWS

  • Nine historic tall ships from the U.S. and Canada are set to sail in Tall Ships Erie 2025, held from August 21 to 24 at Dobbins Landing. During the Parade of Sail on August 21 at 4:00 p.m., local favorite Lettie G. Howard — loaned to Erie — and other vessels will cruise into Presque Isle Bay while the Brig Niagara remains under repair.  The Erie Times-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • In July, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reported mixed water levels in the Great Lakes, with some lakes rising and others falling compared to long-term averages. They predicted that all the lakes would start a seasonal decline in August, with further drops expected in the winter.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ada Valley Meat Company has recalled over 1,000 lbs of frozen ground beef that may contain metal—packaged on May 28th and May 30th and distributed to five states including Pennsylvania. The USDA advises institutions to discard or return the products and no injuries have been reported.  YourErie.com
  • UPMC Health Plan Neighborhood Center officially opened in Erie on August 1 (the new center will offer health plan services to residents).  YourErie.com
