- ➤ Daniel Negron, a 37-year-old Buffalo resident, was arrested in Erie after he threatened suicide and brandished a knife at St. Peter Cathedral during a Catholic mass—he faces charges including terroristic threats and second-degree murder for the death of a 27-year-old Amherst resident as police await his extradition to New York. - ➤ The bipartisan Road to Housing Act was approved by the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee on July 30—its measures include raising multifamily loan limits and excluding veterans’ disability compensation from income tests in HUD programs. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Erie County Department of Health is testing wastewater from the Erie Wastewater Treatment Plant for measles, opioid drugs and nicotine as well as COVID-19, influenza and RSV. The measles testing began in mid-July and opioid and nicotine tests started nine months ago—officials hope the results will help spot trends quickly and may guide public alerts—although no measles virus has been found yet.
