  • Greene Township Parks and Recreation will hold its first-ever Ruck the Trails donation walk on Sunday, July 20 at 8:00 a.m. at Greene Township Paradise Trails—9333 Tate Road—with participants carrying backpacks filled with food, clothing, and hygiene items to aid Erie United Methodist Alliance and local veterans. Those unable to walk may support the event by working at water stations—helping the township meet its donation goals.  YourErie.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The expERIEnce Children’s Museum in downtown Erie is celebrating its 30th anniversary this week, marking a milestone since it opened in July 1995. The museum nearly tripled in size after a $19 million renovation and is hosting a birthday bash on Saturday — the event features Llama Llama, story times, a parade and free Kona Ice for kids.  YourErie.com

  • Barber National Institute held a ribbon cutting today to unveil a new permanent exhibit honoring founder Dr. Gertrude A. Barber, showcasing memorabilia of her life and work. Key administrators and Fr. James Power led the event, after which guests toured the room and enjoyed refreshments while the exhibit will be open to visitors Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.—2 p.m.  TalkErie.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials at Presque Isle State Park restricted swimming at Beaches 6 and 8 on July 9 after water tests showed E. coli levels above safe averages+Visitors may still sunbathe while park officials retest the water daily until the geometric mean drops below 126 particles per 100 milliliters.  The Erie Times-News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com shows that Erie County homes sold in April for a median price of $175,000 — which is 2.8% less than March and 4.4% lower than April last year. The report shows that while single-family home prices dropped, condo and townhome prices increased, indicating mixed trends in the local market.  The Erie Times-News
