COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lagoon by Pontoon offers free boat rides on Presque Isle every weekend this summer—volunteers and park staff take up to 18 passengers on rides at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.—and visitors must sign in 15 minutes before the ride begins.  YourErie.com
  • Erie Apparel will host Dog Days at Oliver's Beer Garden for local dog owners to enjoy a fun outdoor event. The gathering will offer an opportunity for residents to celebrate their pets—bringing the community together.  YourErie.com
  • Erie residents and visitors are enjoying the warm weather by renting boats—such as kayaks and paddleboards—to cool off at Presque Isle and waterparks despite a heat advisory that lasts until Tuesday night.   • Participants ran a 5K at Erie Brewing Company this past Saturday morning to raise funds for ANNA Shelter. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two people were taken to a hospital after a rollover crash occurred Sunday at the Buffalo Road—Mooreheadville Road intersection in Harborcreek Township, where emergency crews blocked half the road and Pennsylvania State Police investigated the incident.  YourErie.com

  • On Monday, philharmonic representatives introduced Bobby Pape as the new executive director after a year-long search; he began his role on June 2 and said his 15 years in nonprofit arts in the Great Lakes region will help guide upcoming plans—such as the In Your Hometown summer concert series.  YourErie.com
  • The documentary Dear Neighbor had its first public screening on Saturday at the Erie County Public Library—honoring the Sisters of St. Joseph for 165 years of service. The film was made by Menajerie Studio with support from the SSJ Mission and Ministry Foundation, and it allowed the community to share their memories online.  YourErie.com

  • The Department of Physician Assistant Studies announced that the Class of 2025 achieved a 100% first-time pass rate on the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination—this success highlights the hard work of the students, faculty, and clinical partners.  Mercyhurst University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Parents in Pennsylvania must follow fireworks laws for the July Fourth weekend; children under 18 cannot purchase, possess, or use consumer-grade fireworks (which include firecrackers, Roman candles, and bottle rockets with up to 50 milligrams of explosive material). The rules also require permission to ignite fireworks on property and set a 150-foot safety distance from buildings or vehicles to reduce risks during celebrations.  The Erie Times-News
