- ➤ On June 11, the Mercy Center for Women hosted their 3rd annual Community Picnic at Perry Square, feeding about 250 people—more than twice as many as in 2024. Executive director Jennie Hagerty said the higher turnout reflects growing local need during tough times—many count on the center for a meal and a moment of connection. YourErie.com
- ➤ Tuesday night, Millcreek Township saw 120-140 vehicles and over 400 people at the Food ‘N Cruze event at St. Nick’s Grove—hosted by St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. - ➤ Erie Insurance is restoring its systems after a weekend outage while Philadelphia Insurance Companies is also facing network problems—both insurers say the outages are not connected. - ➤ More than 300 women gathered on Tuesday night at the Battles White House in Girard to honor Charlotte Battles and fund a $250,000 restoration of the historic home. - ➤ St. Ann’s School in Erie, built in 1925, is getting complete renovations to mark its centennial thanks to over a million dollars in grants and donations and is now used by Sarah Reed Children’s Center for educational programs. - ➤ Blessed Sacrament School in Erie closes its doors today at 12:30 p.m. after a study by Meitler Consulting led the Erie Catholic School System to relocate students and teachers—while a farewell celebration is held at 5:30 p.m. on June 11 and some families have hired a lawyer to challenge the decision with the Vatican.
