EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Millcreek’s McDowell High and Intermediate schools will reorganize when Scott Quivey takes over as the sole principal after Sandra Means departs on June 30. The campus will add an associate principal and assistant principals, launch a unified website, and be redesignated as North and South McDowell. The Erie Times-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Shapiro proposed $20 million to fund repairs of old hazardous sites by using past cleanup work at Currie Landfill as a model. The DEP held a news conference in Millcreek Township on May 13 to detail the plan under the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Pennsylvania lawmakers passed HB1814 to require schools to ban cell phone use during school hours starting in the 2027–2028 academic year if Gov. Shapiro signs the bill. District officials will set rules for exemptions and parent contact options — a move designed to reduce distractions in class. The Erie Times-News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The FDA recalled D'Dioses Fruit Pops sold in grocery stores in Pennsylvania and other states because products made before April 27 may contain undeclared milk (along with Yellow #5, Red #40, pecans, and pistachios) that can trigger allergic reactions. Consumers are urged to return any affected products for a refund. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ The Fairview Tigers secured a spot in the PIAA Class 3A baseball tournament after outlasting the Riverside Panthers 3-1 on Monday. Their win assures a new champion will be crowned as the tournament moves forward. The Erie Times-News
