- ➤ Downtown Corry business owners are eligible to share $225,000 in state and local grants to improve storefront facades—efforts aimed at revitalizing the downtown area. The funding includes a $100,000 tap from Main Street Matters and $125,000 from the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority's Mission Main Street initiative, announced on May 30. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ The fourth annual 14th Festival will be held on June 12 on East 14th Street in downtown Erie to avoid weekend conflicts—local sponsors have provided free admission and the event will feature live music, food vendors and children’s activities for a festive summer kickoff. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ The Friends of the Erie County Library is holding its six-day Great American Book Sale June 15-20 at Flo Fabrizio Ice Center — where over 75,000 used books, media and puzzles will be offered at low prices with free entry and parking. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lake Erie water levels peaked in May between 174.38 and 174.49 meters and are predicted to be about 9 to 11 inches lower than last year’s levels. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers forecasts that levels will be slightly above last year’s in June—then remain near those levels through October—due to increased evaporation from warmer, drier air.
