  • Rite Aid announced that four Erie County pharmacies will close soon as part of a plan to shutter 316 stores nationwide after the company filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time in two years. An employee said the 5430 Peach St. location will close by the end of June while prescriptions are transferred to Giant Eagle at 2501 W. 12th St.—other pharmacies await official closing dates.  The Erie Times-News

  • Erie's free summer concert series Sounds Around Town will return this summer at WQLN with four shows featuring reggae, bluesy rock and jam band grooves. The concerts will be held on July 11 with David Devine & Friends, July 18 with Lopaka Rootz, July 25 with Ron Yarosz & The Vehicle and Aug. 1 with Kactai, with each show starting at 7:30 p.m.  YourErie.com
  • National Alligator Day was established on May 29 by Wild Florida Safari Park to educate the public about alligators and their role in nature. A family reported a small alligator off East Avenue in summer 2024 but officials say Erie’s harsh winter would likely have killed any gator in the lake.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie's Wild Rib Cook Off and Musical Festival is underway today at Perry Square with free admission and live music from at least eight rib vendors — the rib judging contest runs today from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., and winners will be announced on May 31 at 7 p.m.  The Erie Times-News
