CULTURE NEWS

  • The Imagine National Dance Challenge returns to Erie with its final regular season event at Bayfront Convention Center. Star Dance Alliance hosts 150 dancers from New York, Ohio (and Pennsylvania) competing today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  TalkErie.com

  • A VisitErie study from early 2026 shows that 50% of Erie’s arts spending comes from visitors — 23% are from Pittsburgh. The report adds local hotels had 5% lower occupancy in the first quarter as 61% of visitors came from out of state.  The Erie Times-News

  • Erie City Mission announced plans to convert a shuttered elementary school on East Grandview Blvd into a housing facility for women and children. With no public appeal filed by May 18, Millcreek Township zoning officials will review the special exception request for the project (application to be filed next week).  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook released his annual report showing a significant drop in fatal overdoses in 2025 — overdose deaths fell to 42 from 73 in 2024 and traffic fatalities hit record lows with 12 motor vehicle and 4 motorcycle deaths.  The Erie Times-News
  • AHN infectious disease specialists advise Erie residents to protect themselves during tick season this summer by using insect repellent, wearing long clothing, and checking for ticks (precautions are key during Lyme Disease Awareness Month).  TalkErie.com
