  • Students at Grandview Elementary School celebrated World Bee Day on Tuesday, May 20th by learning through hands-on STEM games about the important role of bees in nature. A PennWest Edinboro professor also visited to show how pollinators move from plant to plant.  YourErie.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Visitors to Presque Isle State Park must follow rules to keep the beaches safe—swimming is allowed only at guarded beaches and wading is limited on unguarded ones—and the park bans alcohol, restricts smoking to designated areas, and requires pets to be leashed.  The Erie Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie County voters cast their ballots on May 20 for the municipal primary, voting between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Key contests included the mayoral race with incumbent Joe Schember facing challengers Daria Devlin and Sheila Woeger while officials provided live updates on the results.  The Erie Times-News
  • Millcreek Township School District filed a lawsuit in Erie on May 16 to recover almost $76,000 from Cornerstone Technologies Inc.—a Georgia company that picked up nearly 1,000 surplus technology items in August but never paid as agreed. The suit claims the firm has a pattern of non-payment and cites a similar case that led to a $250,000 settlement in Minnesota.  The Erie Times-News
