COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Erie will host the 15th annual Troika Festival at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity Community Center at 109 German St. from May 23-25, featuring live music by the Breeze Band, Barynya dancing, and Russian food and drinks+ proceeds support the church food pantry and community center upgrades.  The Erie Times-News
  • Ann Tredway, executive director of the Center for the Rights of Abused Children, said that Erie must help over 13,000 foster children in Pennsylvania who have faced trauma and instability. She urged neighbors to offer concrete support—through meals, advocacy, or simply a kind gesture—and work together to protect these vulnerable children.  The Erie Times-News

  • Ace Hardware in Erie will give away one million free American flags on Saturday, May 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in partnership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars to honor Memorial Day—customers can also get savings on grills, tools, and outdoor items through Monday, May 26.  The Erie Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie County voters will hit the polls May 20 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for local races—including the Erie mayoral contest and County Executive race—while mail-in voting is allowed, though the registration deadline ended May 5.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Erie County Health inspected local restaurants from May 8 to May 15 and found five critical violations including no hot water, expired food, and mouse droppings at several Harborcreek Township locations—issues that point to needed corrections. Health officials noted that some past violations were fixed during the period.  The Erie Times-News
