ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 16, a fire heavily damaged a house on Erie's west side in the 400 block of Cascade Street after 3 p.m.—firefighters evacuated all residents and pets with no injuries and got the blaze under control before 4 p.m. while an inspector investigated the cause.  YourErie.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Many local grocery chains will operate on regular hours on Memorial Day, May 26, with retailers such as Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, and Kroger remaining open—Costco will be closed and Aldi will offer limited hours. Banks and post offices will be closed on the holiday.  The Erie Times-News

CRIME NEWS

  • Erie police are investigating a stabbing incident—occurring around 4 a.m. Thursday at a house on East 27th Street—after a man in his 60s was taken to Saint Vincent Hospital with multiple stab wounds and officers secured the scene while collecting evidence.  YourErie.com
  • Erie Humane Society Animal Cruelty Division is asking local residents to help solve three animal abandonment cases involving two kittens found in a box near West 26th Street in Millcreek on April 25 at 7:30 a.m.—a beagle mix observed along Macedonia Road on May 8 at 8 p.m.—and four pit bull puppies discovered in Pebble Lake Park in Erie around 3 p.m.—and urges anyone with information to call Humane Officer Lisa Stiles at 8148810220.  YourErie.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Grow Erie hosted an open house on May 16 at Savocchio Park to show progress on a 17,000 square foot agricultural facility that turned a 25-year vacant building into a hub for local employment and fresh food in east Erie. The project will soon add a 3,000 square foot greenhouse across the road to boost investment, according to Infinite Erie.  YourErie.com
