ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews are working to secure and raise the tugboat G Tug Hawaii from Lake Erie near Don Jon Shipyard since May 4 after it sank in December 2025, with recovery operations expected to finish today or soon, officials say.  The Erie Times-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • National Fuel, which has its headquarters on State Street in Erie, acquired North East Heat & Light’s natural gas assets on May 7, taking on 3,300 customers. Former customers will now use National Fuel's billing system and may see lower costs.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Erie School Board will vote at 6 p.m. on May 13 at the district administration building (1910 Sassafras St.) on keeping the long-standing Harding Elementary School name while honoring Col. John Boyd by renaming the library at 820 Lincoln Ave.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Highmark reached a provider agreement with OB/GYN Associates of Erie after the practice sent letters warning patients of potential service interruptions without a new deal. The agreement will help ensure that patients continue receiving needed care.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Harbor Creek’s Paul J. Weitz Stadium, the championship heats for the 100-meter hurdles and dashes concluded yesterday at the Erie County Classic where local athletes vied for top honors.  The Erie Times-News
  • Gabe Alvarez, the former SeaWolves manager, was fired Tuesday for sending an inappropriate text to a female colleague+Mike Hessman, a former hitting coach, will now take over as manager.  The Erie Times-News
  • Seven female athletes will share their experiences during Fort LeBoeuf’s Signing Day as part of a local event celebrating sports talent today. The event aims to inspire youth and engage community members.  The Erie Times-News
  • Seven Fairview athletes shared their college plans during a Signing Day ceremony — the event highlighted local student sports achievements. The interviews brought forward fresh perspectives from the community.  The Erie Times-News
