COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Barber National Institute will host the new Lake Erie Odyssey adapted obstacle course for teens and adults with disabilities on Sept. 12 at Waldameer Park — the mile-long course features varied obstacles where participants choose their challenge level. Registration is free on the institute’s website.  The Erie Times-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Erie Indemnity board elected Jonathan Hirt Hagen on Apr. 19 as the new chairman as longtime chairman Thomas Hagen (90) stepped into an emeritus role. Jonathan, who previously served as vice chairman, will lead the board without managing daily operations.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Fort LeBoeuf School Board voted to renovate Waterford Elementary at its April 23 meeting, setting plans in motion to upgrade the facility for local students and families.  The Erie Times-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Asbury Woods is removing two houses near Brown's Farm Barn to boost nature access and conserve land; demolition began April 20 at 5776 Sterrettania Road, with work shifting to 5630 Old Sterrettania Road next. A nearby 280-ft boardwalk will close May 1 for replacement.  The Erie Times-News

  • On Tuesday, Apr. 21, Erie-area political veteran Donna Reese joined the Joel Natalie Show to discuss political violence and civil discourse.  TalkErie.com

  • Fort LeBoeuf sprinter KC Wasiulewski won the boys' 100-meter final by running 11 seconds and beating Mercyhurst Prep's Vincent Feliciano + Meadville's Tymir Phillips during the McDowell Invitational on April 24 at Gus Anderson Field.  The Erie Times-News
  • Blayze Myers, a McDowell High School grad and Baldwin Wallace University sports management student, worked as an NFL Draft ambassador last week and will cover the Kentucky Derby starting April 28 to gain coaching and scouting experience + build his career.  The Erie Times-News
