COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Erie City Mission is seeking zoning approval to convert a shuttered elementary school (in Millcreek Township) into temporary housing for women and children. The project would offer shelter for up to 18 months pending local approvals.  The Erie Times-News
  • City officials announced on Tuesday, April 14 a lineup of summer events including CelebrateErie, Sounds of Summer, July 3 fireworks, and America250PA programs designed to bring residents together. Additional details will be shared on May 14 (a local 13-year-old won a youth logo contest to represent the celebration).  TalkErie.com

  • Betty Buckley is returning to perform at MIAC in an upcoming event that promises to bring a fresh, celebrated act to the local stage — fans should watch for further details about timing and ticket information.  Erie Reader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Statewide, hunters must now dispose of deer parts considered high-risk—head and spine, and the spleen if not field dressed—in the trash. The Game Commission will soon establish no deer feeding zones and develop an optional mail-in testing kit to help curb Chronic Wasting Disease.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Warm, wet weather is sparking an early allergy season in Erie, with higher March temperatures and increased rainfall causing tree pollen to spread. Dr. Sartaj Ahmed reports that patients began experiencing symptoms in late March — local pharmacies are now providing treatment guidance.  The Erie Times-News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com shows Erie County home sale prices dropped to a median of $180,000 in January, a 10% fall from December's $200,000. The sales data also showed a 7.7% drop compared to last January — a sign of a slowing market.  The Erie Times-News

  • Coach Dan Perfetto retired as Mercyhurst Prep girls basketball head coach after 20 seasons, finishing with 408 wins. He will continue as athletic director while the school begins its search for a new coach.  The Erie Times-News
  • Former Steelers running back James Conner, an Erie native now with the Cardinals, will attend the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh + announce his team's day two picks on April 24 despite ending his 2025 season early with a foot injury that required surgery.  The Erie Times-News
