BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hair of the Dawg, open since March 28 in Lake City, is building a 4,000 sqft outdoor dog park (under construction) with its own bar and yard games that is expected to welcome dogs by July 4; the venue at 9690 West Lake Road already serves food and drinks.  The Erie Times-News

  • Brian Graham and Adam Welsh (publishers and editors-in-chief) held a conversation to mark the Erie Reader’s 15th anniversary and share insights on its evolution in our community.  Erie Reader

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Erie port workers unloaded 57 wind turbines from the BBC Tokyo cargo ship on April 11-12, and the first turbines will leave by truck for New York wind farms next week. The work included help from 33 non-Carmeuse employees who worked long hours to keep the ship in port.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mercyhurst University alumni are returning to classrooms this week (Mon Apr. 13 - Fri Apr. 17) to show students how college experiences can lead to real-world success. The event will provide career insights and practical advice for navigating future opportunities.  Mercyhurst University
  • Walker Scobell, a local teen known from Percy Jackson, said he will skip prom after urging people to stop death threats to teen girls — his April 12 Instagram message has spurred Fairview Township schools and police to confirm no verified incidents while monitoring student safety.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Home health agencies in Erie County are struggling to fill 110,000 weekly care hours because aides earn about $13 and nurses $25-$30—less than in nearby states—threatening care for clients such as Tyler King who depends on support from his aging family caregivers.  The Erie Times-News
  • LECOM Behavioral Health takes over non-core behavioral health services from Barber Institute as the institute shifts focus to intellectual disabilities and autism; patients were notified yesterday and 45 institute employees are offered jobs (services include blended case management and family-based support), with the transition set to finish by June 30.  The Erie Times-News
  • Robert Barber, senior vice president of the Barber National Institute, said behavioral health services will move to LECOM Health while other offerings remain at the Institute (transfer details pending) (official service plan today).  The Erie Times-News
  • Tyler King, 23, has received round-the-clock care from his grandparents and nurses since his spinal injury in 2015. He stresses that his support system is vital to living a fulfilling life.  The Erie Times-News

  • The Erie Times-News and AHN Sports Medicine are running online Athlete of the Week polls for District 10's spring sports season until Wednesday at 5 p.m.— fans can submit nominations by email. Ballots open each Monday at 5 p.m. and close on Wednesday.  The Erie Times-News
  • The SeaWolves return home to UPMC Park today for a six-game series against Harrisburg. The team is 2-7 and hopes to improve its pitching & hitting after a tough road trip.  The Erie Times-News
