  • Greg Fornalczyk, co-owner of Lake Erie Candy Company—maker of beach glass candy—discussed the company’s history and its plans for special treats during the upcoming Easter season. The business will launch new products as the holiday approaches.  The Erie Times-News
  • Missy Bartges and Greg Fornalczyk started Lake Erie Candy Company in 2019 after not finding beach glass candy in Erie and now sell over 500 candy products via their storefront at 3330 West 26th St. — They expanded into an adjacent unit in 2024 to boost their wholesale business.  The Erie Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie airport will offer Global Entry interviews from April 28 through May 2 at the CPB office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—travelers can use the mobile app or dedicated lines to skip long queues while walk-ins may face delays.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie Police Department is recruiting new officers and will hold a physical agility test on August 2 with a written test following for those who pass — applicants must submit materials, including an $80 fee, by June 27; Lt. Tom Lenox said the initiative seeks to diversify the department to better reflect the community.  YourErie.com
  • Drivers who use I-90 early in the morning and evening will face delays when PennDOT begins nighttime lane closures Monday, April 14 from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. nightly until April 25. Crews will work during the closures to replace the Jordan Road Bridge on the section from Exit 32—Route 430/290 to Exit 29—Route 8.  YourErie.com
  • Mayor Schember held his weekly news conference on April 10 at 9:58 a.m. EDT — his live broadcast from city hall provided Erie residents with updates on local government plans.  YourErie.com
  • The Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority awarded $594,154 to nine nonprofit groups, including the Erie Zoo which celebrated its 100th anniversary this year. Since 2011, the authority has given over $18 million to groups that shape Erie’s culture, heritage, and recreation.  The Erie Times-News
  • Pennsylvania will hold its municipal primary election on May 20 where voters choose between in-person voting and mail ballots. Those voting by mail must request a ballot by May 13 and follow strict instructions on signature, ink, and envelopes (unregistered voters must register by May 5) to have their vote counted.  YourErie.com
