COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Summit Township plans a new eight-foot-wide fitness trail that will run for about a mile through Community Park next year; township officials will apply for a state grant this spring and also update playgrounds with new equipment at Picnicana Park this fall to enhance park offerings.  The Erie Times-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Twisted Elk has created Fin-Tastic, a pineapple beer available only at Splash Lagoon — named after the park's mascot Fin.  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Presque Isle State Park near Erie honors its War of 1812 history with a Perry Monument and sites that recall sailors’ tough winter at Misery Bay, and offers free admission, beaches, trails, and a Tom Ridge Environmental Center for visitors. The park is open daily from 5 a.m. to sunset.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Residents in Fort LeBoeuf are debating a plan to consolidate three top-performing elementary schools into one. Locals note that research shows such moves could lower nearby home values by 7 to 13% and impact student well-being, leaving the community divided on the proposal's risks.  The Erie Times-News
  • Edison Elementary School opened yesterday with accessible features like an elevator to serve 400 to 600 students; the new building (built at 1921 E. East Lake Road) is part of a $80 million district plan to update all schools, with demolition of the old structure planned later this month.  The Erie Times-News
