  • Chelsea Braendel, one of the Braendel kids from local commercials for Braendel Services, died on March 31 in Erie; she was remembered as a kind stylist (donations in her honor are accepted by the Night to Shine Foundation).  The Erie Times-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Because Pennsylvania still prohibits adult-use cannabis, locals often cross the border to buy recreational products at shops such as Organic Blooms (in Findlay Lake, N.Y.), a policy gap that sends millions in potential revenue away.  The Erie Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie activist Marty Nwachukwu of Erie County United is urging local officials to seek state funding that will help residents manage higher living costs.  The Erie Times-News

  • Gannon University won its first NCAA Division II men’s basketball championship on April 5 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse when it beat Lander. Pace Prosser scored 28 points (tournament MVP) as game highlights became available online.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie Times-News, Seaway Window and AHN Sports Medicine are hosting Athlete of the Week polls for District 10's spring sports season through early June. Ballots will run online every Monday until Wednesday at 5 p.m. and fans can email nominee details+player, school, sport and a brief reason for their choice.  The Erie Times-News
