CULTURE NEWS

  • Benedictines for Peace held the Good Friday Pilgrimage for Peace on Apr. 3 in downtown Erie, focusing on racism through a contemporary Stations of the Cross.  The Erie Times-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On April 3, gas prices in Erie averaged over $4 per gallon and diesel prices topped $6 — prompting drivers to watch fuel costs amid market shifts.  The Erie Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Josh Shapiro's 2022 campaign promise for a $250 gas tax rebate did not materialize due to unavailable federal funds, and state lawmakers are proposing temporary gas tax suspensions to ease high pump prices (gas remains above $4 today).  The Erie Times-News
  • The multi-million-dollar paving project in Corry began on March 30, with PennDOT planning upgrades on Route 77 and Route 426; M and B Services from Clarion will cover 4.65 miles of road over about two years.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Erie County inspectors conducted restaurant reviews from March 26-April 1 and reported four critical violations at Wang Erie Restaurant (inaccessible handwash sink, unsafe food temperatures, inadequate staff knowledge, and improper handwashing) with additional noncritical issues noted at other eateries.  The Erie Times-News
