  • Smith’s hot dog, an Erie product, is in the running for the Coolest Thing Made in PA contest and now faces Eat’n Park Smiley Cookie as local voters can cast votes today at 9 a.m. (voting ends April 1 at 4 p.m.).  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Easter egg hunts are underway across Erie as Asbury United Methodist Church hosts one event in Millcreek Township. More family fun with egg hunts, prizes, and visits with the Easter Bunny is planned during Holy Week by local groups like the Erie Zoo and SeaWolves.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mercyhurst Student Government hosted its inaugural student leadership celebration and networking night on Monday, March 16 at the Mercyhurst campus. The event recognized outstanding leaders and connected student organizations with food and conversation.  Mercyhurst University
  • Jefferson Educational Society is holding The USA 250 Great America Trivia Challenge for Erie trivia buffs, with qualifying exams on Monday, Apr. 13 at 11 a.m. and Thursday, Apr. 16 at 7 p.m. at JES, and prizes ($1,000) for round winners and ($2,000) for the champion.  TalkErie.com

  • Gannon University’s men’s basketball team meets Lander University in the NCAA Division II championship at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Sunday, Apr. 5 at 1 p.m.—marking its first final appearance since 1987—with fans from Erie having a fan bus departing from 130 W. 4th St. at 4:30 a.m.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie Times-News, Seaway Window and AHN Sports Medicine have launched an online poll to choose the top female winter athlete from the 2025-26 season. Votes are accepted from March 30 at 5 p.m. to April 1 at 5 p.m. — local fans can cast their ballots now.  The Erie Times-News
  • Co-ed teams from six Erie elementary schools played in the Royal Basketball Tournament at Erie High School on March 28. Perry won the championship during the contest held on two courts at 3325 Cherry St.  The Erie Times-News
