- ➤ The American Red Cross has partnered with the Erie Fire Department to install free smoke alarms in (16503) as part of an effort to reduce home fire risks. Residents must sign up for an appointment before April 4 by calling (814-240-7667). YourErie.com
- ➤ Mercy Center for Women will honor 14 local women who have made a lasting impact in health, education and social services at a free event on March 31 at the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center at Mercyhurst University. The center, which has celebrated Women Making History for over 30 years, expects the Erie community to attend and recognize these trailblazers — a celebration marking the final day of Women’s History Month. - ➤ Gabby Petito’s death has brought renewed focus on domestic violence in Erie where SafeNet provides emergency shelter—legal advocacy and counseling to help survivors. The nonprofit reaches about 2,000 locals and urges residents to donate, volunteer or advocate for changes that protect victims. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Erie got 111.1 inches of snow this winter, about 14 inches above normal (37.1 inches came in a big storm after Thanksgiving), and even though spring began yesterday, the weather service says rain may change to snow later this month and in April. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Repairs on the Evans Road bridge in Millcreek will begin on March 31 and include deck, barrier and waterproofing work, with one lane kept open and temporary lane restrictions expected. Work on the Old Lake Road bridge in Springfield will start after the Evans Road project and is set to finish in September with detours in place for two months under a $784,754 project by Thomas Construction. - ➤ UPMC Hamot opened a new medical office with 28 exam rooms in the former Avalon Hotel after Healthy Families Primary Care moved from Erie Central Mall, and it now offers primary and specialty care with bus access and free underground parking—part of a project converting the building into 197 affordable apartments. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Erie County reported a record 5,738 flu cases through March 14 in the 2024-25 season, marking the highest count for the third straight season and the fifth in eight. County Health Department officials said the flu season is not over and a second wave of type B flu may still emerge - they noted a return to regular activities and increased testing as likely factors.
