BUSINESS NEWS

  • Perry's Pizza will open a new restaurant at 1001 W. Sixth St. in Erie by late May or early June. Owners Elliot Smith and Bianca Bruni will use a $38,000 city loan — to be finalized at an upcoming Erie City Council meeting — to refurbish the space while keeping the same brick oven menu from their previous Food Hall location.  The Erie Times-News
  • A well-known dessert shop is moving into its new space at 6839 Peach Street in Summit Township after its equipment arrived Tuesday. Owner Mark Ornowski said the shop will need approval, certificate of occupancy, and up to 100 new hires before it opens by early May—other locations operate in North Huntingdon and Wheeling.  YourErie.com
  • Lawrence Park's Park Coffee and Bread Company is expanding by moving operations from 4007 Main St. to the historic Batchelor Hardware Store location at 4012 Main St. (The new space will offer a refillery, extra seating, and room for classes) while owner Kristen Davis also retains her original shop (which she will upgrade for community use) with the new location set to open later this week.  The Erie Times-News

CRIME NEWS

  • Erie police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old woman found unresponsive at the base of a stairwell (600 block East Seventh Street) on Monday at 3:49 p.m., with the county coroner reporting (no signs of foul play) as detectives gather further evidence.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College students in Pennsylvania can apply for the new Grow PA Grant Program to receive up to $5,000 per year if they live and work in the state after graduation, enroll at least half-time, and complete a FAFSA application for the 2025-26 academic year. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until April 15+ first-year out-of-state students at eligible PA state colleges may receive in-state tuition if they agree to work in Pennsylvania for at least one year+ schools will confirm eligibility and notify students.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • LECOM Health in Erie is now offering its first amyloid-targeting therapy for early Alzheimer's symptoms to patient Jay Estes. His treatment will span eighteen months, and a careful program (including a patient navigator) works to lower brain plaque and boost his memory.  YourErie.com
