COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Girl Scout cookie sales end on March 23rd as Troop 36383 sells Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs at four Erie locations on the EMTA Bayliner trolley — local fans still have time to buy their treats. The troop will use the proceeds for a trip to Hersheypark and to build business skills — a chance for young scouts to learn teamwork and leadership.  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The NWPA Maple Taste & Tour will visit 23 sugar shacks in Erie, Crawford, Mercer, Venango, and Forest counties as well as Chautauqua County, New York—letting local visitors see maple syrup makers boil sap—and will spotlight traditional maple production later this season.  The Erie Times-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In Erie County, thrift shops offer many items like clothes, books, and antiques as shoppers try to save money amid rising inflation. The trend is growing across big chains such as Goodwill and Salvation Army as well as local stores—both driven by a desire to reuse and reduce waste.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwestern's board (meeting Tuesday) is discussing a major overhaul of Rogers Field that would install field turf and update lights and seats as the current facility is outdated. The board plans to vote by (April 21) on spending $8 to $12 million, and if approved, groundbreaking is expected next March, making the upcoming season the last with natural grass.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Erie County Department of Health inspected restaurants from March 6th to 13th, 2025 and found six critical violations — including food residue on surfaces and low cooler temperatures — while some non-critical issues were corrected on re-inspections.  The Erie Times-News
