BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wilds Sonshine Factory will offer spiced rum distilled from Girard sunflowers to Erie shoppers as some Kane outlets continue tastings. It is the first spirit from the factory to be sold beyond its distillery.  The Erie Times-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Erie's gas prices hit $3.65 a gallon on March 6 amid rising oil costs linked to the Iran conflict — experts say prices may stay elevated for months, although they don't expect a drop to $5 as seen in 2022.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Erie's two largest hospitals have reduced their ER wait times over the past two years, though rates remain higher than before COVID. Saint Vincent's now averages 210 minutes and UPMC Hamot 190 minutes (CMS data) as staffing shortages keep care slower.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie County health inspectors reviewed restaurants from Feb. 27 to March 6 and found three critical violations at Burger King, Dollar General and Mike 'n DeAngelo's; noncritical issues appeared at Applebee's, Hawthorn Suites, McDonald's and Valenza.  The Erie Times-News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data shows Erie County’s median home sale price increased slightly in December from $200,000 to $201,000, though it is 12.6% lower than December last year’s $229,950. Recorded home sales dropped to 212 from 224, totaling $67.1 million.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Eight Erie County wrestlers secured top-eight finishes at the PIAA championships held at Giant Center in Hershey, with senior Clay Kimmy winning a 152-pound quarterfinal and becoming a two-time medalist (joining both boys and girls in the contest). Final placements will be determined today.  The Erie Times-News
  • The top girls wrestlers competed at the 2026 PIAA Girls Wrestling Championships in Chocolatetown on March 5. The tournament featured first-round bouts in multiple weight classes in Hershey (showcasing competitors from across the commonwealth).  The Erie Times-News
