COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Erie's St. Patrick's Day parade will happen March 14 on State Street in downtown Erie; the lineup begins at noon and the parade starts at 2 p.m. with a sensory-friendly area available — Erie Downtown Partnership confirms extra festivities include live music and ice skating.  The Erie Times-News
  • The former Erie Coliseum at 1511 Peach St. operated from 1963 to December 1967, later becoming the School District’s first administration building and now serving as the headquarters for social service agency Perseus House. It stands as a piece of Erie’s redevelopment history.  The Erie Times-News
  • From March 8 to 14, Catholic Sisters Week will honor 174 years of service by sisters whose work built schools, hospitals, and ministries that shaped local life (a legacy of hope and heart). Local community members will share personal stories of education and care.  The Erie Times-News
  • At Mercy Anchor Community Center, local residents Ashley Davis (39) and Olivia Davis (29) shared how the center has provided vital support and resources to help change their lives.  The Erie Times-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • FishUSA is set to move from Fairview Township to a new $12 million, 60,000-square-foot facility at Ironworks Square in Erie. The expanded building will house offices, a warehouse & retail store while design work continues today with construction expected to start this fall.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Erie’s Public Schools is launching a comprehensive review to improve suicide prevention and crisis response and will consider amending the UPMC Western Behavioral Health service agreement on March 11. A new committee including staff and students will assess current policies, practices and training at the schools.  TalkErie.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Erie International Airport recorded 5.7 inches in February while the season total is 69.9 inches, 19.2 inches below the normal 104.3; the National Weather Service noted Feb. 6 had the highest snowfall for the month (2 inches) amid milder conditions.  The Erie Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie's City Revitalization and Improvement Zone is set to provide up to $15 million a year for local economic growth — a local letter calls for 1% of that funding to support public art and create welcoming spaces for residents. This proposal mirrors similar efforts in other North American cities.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mercyhurst's Division I men's basketball team discussed its playoff win during a press conference today. Coaches explained key game moments and the win's impact on the season.  The Erie Times-News
