COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Erie's IHOP is celebrating National Pancake Day today by giving away free short stacks at its 8040 Peach St. and 4050 Depot Road locations from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.—while also accepting donations for Feeding America to help fight hunger.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie County groups Project Prom and Glam + Go Prom it Forward are offering free prom dresses, suits, and accessories to students. Project Prom is holding giveaways on March 13-15, 21-22, 27-29 and April 11-12 at 1676 Pinegrove Way in Summit Township.  The Erie Times-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Miniso will open a new store in Millcreek Mall's Boscov's concourse this spring, offering toys, collectibles, snacks, and home goods (the chain operates over 300 U.S. stores). Cafaro Co. spokesman Joe Bell said the store is set to open within 60 days.  The Erie Times-News
  • New owners will reopen VooDoo Brewery on State Street on March 7 (with subtle changes) after its recent closure, offering Erie locals a refreshed venue for socializing.  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dramashop closed permanently in March after 15 years of presenting provocative theater in Erie, and leaders said the Facebook page will remain active to honor its legacy. Officials will soon take steps to officially dissolve the organization, ensuring the local theater community endures.  The Erie Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 2, Gov. Shapiro proposed taxing skill games to protect casino jobs after a 27% reduction hit venues statewide (including a 34% drop at Presque Isle Downs and Casino). The measure aims to create a fair tax structure that supports local workers.  The Erie Times-News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Millcreek Township has selected Millcreek Momentum, LLC (a joint venture between JMF Properties and Gladstone Equities) to redevelop the Gateway District near Presque Isle State Park. A pre-development agreement signed this week sets the framework to guide a multi-year plan that will create a new town center with mixed-use properties.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Erie sports fans can vote online for athlete of the week in winter sports as part of polls organized by the Erie Times-News, Seaway Window, and AHN Sports Medicine. Votes run from Monday at 5 p.m. to Wednesday at 5 p.m. weekly (wrestlers are in a separate poll).  The Erie Times-News
