- ➤ Mercyhurst students will join the Polar Plunge (a fundraiser for Special Olympics Pennsylvania) on Tuesday, April 7, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Trinity Green; President Kathleen Getz will take the plunge if the student government raises at least $500 as the university aims to exceed $25,000 in funds. - ➤ In Corry, Dustin and Ericka Michel named their daughter Mary (after the mother of Jesus) after her birth came three months following the rupture of Ericka's amniotic fluid sac. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ The Erie Zoo partnered with Erie Events to enhance visitor experience ahead of its reopening on March 1 and Glow Wild Chinese Lantern Festival from April 30 to July 5. The zoo, now home to Ernie + KJ, relies on community support to sustain its mission. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ On Feb. 25, data from the U.S. National Ice Center shows Lake Erie ice fell to 70% as westerly winds pushed ice east, and falling temperatures overnight on Feb. 26 plus March 1 could freeze open water areas with thin new ice. The Erie Times-News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Erie County inspectors conducted restaurant inspections from Feb. 19-25 and found four critical violations at a McDonald's on Buffalo Road in Harborcreek Township and one noncritical violation at a Dunkin' in Millcreek while previous issues at Yummy Bowl, Bistro 26 and Polish Falcons had been corrected. - ➤ Girard boys’ basketball team defeated Harbor Creek 70-66 on Feb. 27 in a District 10 Class 4A consolation game; the win qualified them for the PIAA playoffs (overtime highlights available). The Erie Times-News
