COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Giant Eagle and Market District launched a drive at checkout to fight hunger as part of its Full Plates, Zero Waste initiative. Customers may donate any amount through May 20 at 200 supermarkets, with funds going to regional food banks serving western Pennsylvania (including Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank).  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Harry T. Burleigh Spirituals Festival will be held at Mercyhurst University beginning March 25 to honor Erie native composer Harry T. Burleigh on the 160th anniversary of his birth — featuring scholar talks, student programs and a community concert.  The Erie Times-News
  • Ivan Fortushniak’s artwork is on display at the Cummings Art Gallery at Mercyhurst University until Friday, Feb. 27 (open Monday-Friday 2-6 p.m.) and a reception will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26 (5-7 p.m.), while student Muriel Zollinger’s interview highlights his creative process.  Mercyhurst University

  • The Corry Higher Education Council and Gannon University will host a weeklong FutureMakers summer camp for 40 juniors and seniors from Corry and Union City to explore manufacturing careers; they will develop 3D printing and robotics + automation skills in labs and team projects at the I-HACK facility in Erie.  The Erie Times-News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In January, home listings in Erie County had a median price of $212,450—down 5.6% from December and 14.9% lower than January 2025. New listings grew by 4.2% while homes stayed on the market for a median of 66 days.  The Erie Times-News

  • Three former Erie County wrestlers shared how they found success at Penn State Behrend after head coach Caleb Garvey rebuilt the wrestling program. Their stories highlighted the effective changes that boosted the team's performance.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie Times-News, Seaway Window and AHN Sports Medicine invite votes for District 10’s winter sports season athlete of the week polls, which run online every Monday until Wednesday through mid-March.
