BUSINESS NEWS

  • Erie Insurance announced that CEO Tim NeCastro will retire on Dec. 31 after a 30-year career with the company. The board will begin its search for a new leader while he stays on as president of the Erie Insurance Foundation.  TalkErie.com
  • The Pennbriar Fitness Club at (100 Pennbriar Road) will close on March 1 while Pennbriar Childcare, the Aine Celtic Academy School of Irish Dance, and Erie Premier Sports continue normal operations. New plans for the facility will be announced soon.  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Erie VA is hosting a Black History Month celebration that will honor local heritage and invite community engagement. The event is set to offer programs highlighting cultural contributions and fostering dialogue among attendees.  Erie Reader
  • Erie Zoo will open on March 1 with a 3-year-old wallaby named KJ and a warty pig called Ernie - staff are updating habitats and restocking the gift shop for visitors.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the National Collegiate Business Championships at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Mercyhurst University students won two team championships and three individual titles while earning five national trophies between Feb. 16 and Feb. 17. Their wins came after competing against top programs from schools like Ohio State and Texas.  Mercyhurst University

SPORTS NEWS

  • Girls wrestling pioneers Gabby Malinowski and Andie Przybycien once competed when the sport was rare in Fort LeBoeuf and now coach a growing team of over 20 wrestlers with a record dual meet performance. Malinowski was named District 10 Coach of the Year as the program builds its family legacy.  The Erie Times-News
  • Workers are building the All American Baseball Center at 4646 Buffalo Road. The center will soon be ready for local baseball fans.  The Erie Times-News
  • District 10 held its boys diving meet yesterday at McDowell Intermediate High School to decide which divers advanced to next month's PIAA championships.  The Erie Times-News
