EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mercyhurst University students served as early adopters of a generative AI-powered analytics platform on campus as beta testers on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The partnership between the university’s Center for Intelligence Research, Analysis, and Training and data² gave them hands-on experience to refine future technology use.  Mercyhurst University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At a Feb. 19 meeting, officials said Presque Isle did not get federal funding for sand replenishment, so the park will rely on state money which may be insufficient to prevent erosion from threatening park roads and buildings (local lawmakers are urging additional support).  The Erie Times-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Erie Cemetery, a 175-year-old site in Little Italy, was designated a historic site by City Council on Feb. 18. The historic designation will allow the Cemetery Association to seek grants to maintain the cemetery and its 68 tree species arboretum.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Erie County Department of Health director Erin Mrenak (monitoring seasonal trends) said the county could see a second wave of flu cases as the season continues, urging residents to consider preventive measures.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Erie High won its third District 10 Class 6A boys basketball championship today in a hard-fought game at its home gym, marking a strong achievement for local sports.  The Erie Times-News
  • The Erie Sports Commission held its 11th annual Sports Tourism Awards Dinner at Bayfront Convention Center on Feb. 18 to honor local groups boosting 2025 sports tourism. Awards recognized events such as the CCA Women’s D2 Tip-Off Classic and the Northeast Region Classic Firefighter Challenge.  TalkErie.com
  • The Edinboro wrestling team defeated Bloomsburg 28-10 on Feb. 19 (senior night) at McComb Fieldhouse after winning against Mercyhurst.  The Erie Times-News
  • Pickleball players can upgrade their wardrobe with a new guide that recommends proper tennis shoes, breathable sportswear, and cushioned socks—items that support quick moves on hard courts. Local players can use these tips to boost comfort and performance this season.  The Erie Times-News
