COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Bayfront East Side Taskforce launched a mini-grant program for older residents in Historic East Bayfront to get minor home modifications; interested applicants must apply by June 15 for up to $1,500 in improvements.  TalkErie.com

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Feb. 4, Wabtec Corp signed a $1.2 billion Union Pacific contract and later secured orders worth over $2.5 billion from major railroads. The deals may bring more work to its Erie facilities and could help grow the local workforce as deliveries start in 2026.  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Black history exhibit celebrating African American achievements debuted at City Hall on Feb. 10, highlighting important historical stories from our community.  The Erie Times-News
  • SoMar Dance Works and the Allen Zurcher Quartet will present Snow White and the Seven Deadly Sins, a concert featuring innovative choreography and live jazz, on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Walker Recital Hall. Admission is free.  Mercyhurst University
  • On Feb. 10, the Performing Artists Collective Alliance announced that executive director Mark Tanenbaum resigned; the announcement did not include the reasons behind his departure.  The Erie Times-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Millcreek School Board approved hiring HHSDR Architects/Engineers for a $27 million addition project at Chestnut Hill Elementary to build a new wing and separate cafeteria. Bidding will begin early in 2027 and construction is set to start in March (finishing in August 2028).  The Erie Times-News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Erie architect David Brennan (of Bostwick Design Partnership) plans to repurpose vacant buildings into affordable housing using historic tax credits and federal funds, and nonprofit developers have already converted closed schools into housing statewide to revitalize local neighborhoods.  The Erie Times-News
