  • Erie Restaurant Week is underway from Jan. 22 to 31 with over 70 local restaurants offering specials and a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card after a kickoff bash held on Jan. 14.  The Erie Times-News

  • Joel Normand and Maria DiSanza opened their new downtown Luminary Distilling location on Dec. 15 at 1213 State St (it seats about 60 patrons).  The Erie Times-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Erie artists share insights on how artificial intelligence is changing creative work. They express both caution and hope as machines mimic, but never fully replace, personal expression (feedback from local art groups informs the discussion).  Erie Reader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mother Teresa Academy will move from its West 11th St site to the former Blessed Sacrament building at 2510 Greengarden Road for the 2026-27 school year. Officials said an open house will be planned soon to prepare the site and buses will continue to transport students to Cathedral Prep.  The Erie Times-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new study released Jan. 21 warns that Pennsylvania hospitals face potential closures within five years due to low Medicaid reimbursements and high malpractice costs; delayed state action may lead to longer travel times and job losses (potentially affecting Erie).  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie hospitals reported no frostbite or hypothermia cases during an earlier cold snap, but local doctors warn that temperatures dropping near zero in Erie (with even colder conditions south) from Jan. 22-24 will raise the risk for elderly, homeless, and chronically ill residents.  The Erie Times-News
