- ➤ Second Harvest Food Bank opened a free grocery store at UPMC Health Plan Neighborhood Center at 803 East Ave on Jan. 14. The 400 sqft marketplace serves 30 families a week and plans five-day service to offer fresh food & household staples to area residents in a food desert. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Starting Jan. 23, Asbury Woods in Millcreek Township is offering a Rent a Maple Bucket program that rents two four-gallon buckets for $25 to help residents collect maple sap from a dedicated grove. Participants can tap trees themselves or let staff handle it, with syrup making starting mid-February & offering guidance to beginners. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Despite high winds and snow, residents attended the annual MLK memorial march today along West Sixth and Chestnut Streets, with City of Erie snow plows clearing the route multiple times to ensure safety. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Tom Keifer and his band will perform at the Warner Theatre on June 3 at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) with special guest L.A. Guns, and tickets are available online, by phone, and at the Erie Insurance box office. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Erie School District will honor John Boyd on Jan. 23 with age-appropriate activities in public schools as part of a new John Boyd Day approved by the school board on Jan. 14 to celebrate his legacy and service. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ PennWest University is proposing changes to its academic programs to reduce majors and minors and add certificates, with the update to be finalized in the spring (current students can finish their enrolled programs) and take effect in fall. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy opened a new physical therapy clinic today (in partnership with Physicians Rehab Solutions) at 3266 W. 26th St. (offering expanded rehab access) in Erie. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Local Orangetheory Fitness is offering a $2 per day membership deal until January 31 (deal begins December 26) to help residents meet their New Year's resolutions with expert coaching, strength training, and cardio workouts for all fitness levels. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ District 10 fans are invited to vote online in the Erie Times-News athlete of the week polls for winter sports, including nominees for basketball, swimming/diving, bowling, track, and hockey, until Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. Nominations should include the player, school, sport, and accomplishment (details submitted via email). - ➤ Corry high school wrestlers captured twin titles on Jan. 17 as the boys beat North East 45 to 27 in Beaver Brawl and the girls topped Sharpsville’s tournament with 180 points. Their wins boost momentum heading into postseason play. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Erie native Tony Robie, Virginia Tech wrestling coach, donated a kidney to Norm Latona last May and was named Sportsman of the Year for 2025 by the Erie Times-News. The coach from Strong Vincent High (where he grew up) said his act of selflessness reflects his deep sense of community. The Erie Times-News
- ➤ Erie Times-News is compiling a weekly District 10 winter sports performance list that kicks off with Avery Collins of Erie First Christian, who scored 29 points in the Eagles’ 63-59 win over Westfield (New York) at Fredonia on Jan. 18.
