- ➤ Construction nears completion on a new Chipotle Mexican Grill by the Sheetz on Constitution Boulevard (Route 51) in Chippewa Township, although its opening date is unannounced. Crews are also building a drive-through Starbucks nearby and clearing land for a new Diehl Kia dealership lot next to the Giant Eagle. The Erie Times-News

- ➤ In 2025, Erie County Public Library data showed that fiction dominated as one war novel topped both the check-out and download lists, and readers favored titles from Kristin Hannah, Lisa Jewell, and Emily Henry (library staff reported). The Erie Times-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Penelec will upgrade 15 insulators on the block between Schley and Chestnut Sts near St. Vincent Hospital and Erie High School — both with backup power — and will cause a power outage affecting 340 customers on Jan. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If inclement weather occurs, the outage will be delayed to Jan. 13. - ➤ Erie County Health Department reported its first flu-related death of the season on Jan. 9, noting that fewer than five residents have died as flu cases dropped since Jan. 2. Doctors advise vaccination+hand washing+mask wearing to protect vulnerable people. The Erie Times-News
