ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The G Tug Hawaii sank late December near Donjon Shipbuilding and Repair on Erie's bayfront (foot of Holland Street) and remains underwater as of early January.  The Erie Times-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • PNC Bank announced its Waterford branch (at 123 High St.) will close on Jan. 23, and customers will be directed to the Edinboro branch (at 104 Erie St.) as more people switch to online banking.  The Erie Times-News
  • Voodoo Brewing will close its State Street pub (formerly in the Boston Store building) in Erie on Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. after a 10-year run, and the company plans to focus on manufacturing and its franchise while exploring a new location in Erie.  The Erie Times-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Presque Isle State Park opens daily at 5 a.m. and permits recreation until sunset, with gate closures at 9 p.m. (Oct. 1-Apr. 30) or 11 p.m. (May 1-Sept. 30). Visitors driving after dark must keep moving, but houseboat owners and marina tenants can access their property.  The Erie Times-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gannon University’s women’s and men’s basketball teams beat Edinboro University on Jan. 7 at McComb Fieldhouse; the women won 63-56 in overtime (free throws clinched their win) while the men scored 103-82, boosting their season records.  The Erie Times-News
  • Erie County will host three annual cheer and dance events this weekend at Bayfront Convention Center, with Saturday's Winter Beach Blast featuring teams from four states and Sunday's recreational championships focusing on inclusivity.
